Homeschool P.E. curriculums For Fitness & Health from Grade School to Graduate
. . . and then beyond.

Learn to move well while young and keep moving for life. If you have chosen to homeschool it is likely that you want the family time and control of what is taught to your children. PE and especially Health would be no different, but are often overlooked parts of a homeschool curriculum.

Physical Education:
Another Reason For Choosing Homeschool

Q:  So, is Physical Education pointless?

If you have chosen or are considering homeschooling for your child(ren) it is likely you have quite a few reasons. Physical Education (PE) is one more reason to add to the list.

The struggles of the modern "gym class":

    - Students do not want to change for class, are unwilling to shower and therefore do not want to sweat.

    - Most students wear slides and non-athletic clothes and cannot give a real effort in PE.

    - Emphasis is generally not placed on PE as a real subject.

    - Despite lacking credentials or an interest in teaching; it is quite common for a sport's coach to be made a PE teacher just to give them a full-time job and secure them with the school.

    - Students' increased social issues, due to smart phones and social media, are all the more hesitant to perform in front of others.

   - The disparity of abilities is a major safety and participation issue, and yet to meet state education standards kids are required to tale PE with no more thought put into class prerequisites.

A:  Once a student has learned to read and write and perform basic math skills; PE, when done correctly, is the only subject I can think of, that is important to every single person for the rest of their lives. Every person should know how to stay fit and perform self-maintenance.

A:  Good PE means better physical abilities, improved biomarkers, quality of sleep, prioritization of healthy habits, enhanced cognitive abilities and assist in mental focus.

A:  Good PE should assist athletes in performance and injury prevention, while helping non-athletes develop fundamental movement skills and maintain fitness for enhanced abilities and improved health.

FUNCTIONAL FITNESS

The hierarchy of Fitness looks something like this:

Training

Exercising

Getting your steps in

Couch Potato

This can be broken down into a lot of subcategories in the "Exercising" and "Training" levels. But at the bottom we see the inactive lifestyle, enabled by the modern life of automation and convenience. One step up is "getting your steps in". This is much better as far as health benefits but still incredibally inadequate as a means of lifelong, well-rounded, physical abilities. Indeed, it cannot even be called "fitness". Once a person begins to truly "exercise" this implies following a program. It can be as simple as having 1 or 2 days of movements that they repeat for months of years. Or it could be someone with a wide array of movements and modes being used throughout the week. This level of "exercise" would look like "training", but the distinction of "training" is that you have a purpose to do your exercise beyond the idea that it is good for you. You are training for a sport an event a competition or to continue setting personal bests at the very least. My recommendation and the programs available on this website are all programs that work on most or all of the ten areas of fitness, seen below.

Strength - Power - Speed - Agility - Endurance - Stamina - Coordination - Balance - Flexibility - Accuracy.

The
Curriculum

Level 1 & 2 do not require any equipment. A pull-up bar and/or suspension straps would be good to have but not required. Everyone should start at level 1 and start working through the Levels at their own pace. A student could stay on Level 1 indefinitely if they just need something to help them stay active and count as PE for their homeschool credits. Level 3 and higher will require access to a gym or equpiment at home.

Level 1 PE called Lil Pups. It is the right place to start for PE, no matter your fitness level. Starts with 1 PE topic lecture.
